Description

Orlando was written in 1928 and dedicated to the poet Vita Sackville-West , a woman whom Virginia Woolf loved deeply, so much so that Vita Sackville-West's son said that this novel is «the longest love letter in history» .

At the center of the story are the amazing adventures of Orlando, a young and melancholy courtier of the era of Elizabeth I, who over the course of nearly four centuries not only finds himself living several lives, in various and evocative historical eras, but also changes sex, thus becoming a woman, after a seven-day sleep in Istanbul.

Joined by a gypsy caravan, she will then have the opportunity to return to London, reliving the atmosphere of the early eighteenth century, the time of Queen Anne, and then of Romanticism, up until the early 1920s, always in pursuit of true love and the profound meaning of poetry.
